My Goals for Startup Semester @UC, Berkeley

Personal Goals

My eyes sparkled with merriment seeing my acceptance letter for startup semester at the University of California, Berkeley. In that moment of exuberance, I grabbed a piece of paper and prepared a bucket list. I pretty much included everything from Grizzly Peak of Berkeley to casinos of Las Vegas. It was the first time I was going to be in a foreign country and I desired to see myself as a changed person when I left. Contrastingly, It took an awful lot of time deciding on the changed version of myself.

Everyone in my group wanted to become an entrepreneur, but it is too general for an aspiration. Everyone has their own definitions of an entrepreneur. For me, an entrepreneur is a person who has a unique thought process to always maximize utilization. I definitely wanted to become an entrepreneur, like others, but it was for varied and unique reasons. For at least ten generations there has been no person in my family who has worked under someone. As a result, I was trained to become an entrepreneur. Traditionally, I would have to continue my family’s line of business but I am not comfortable in doing so. I want to “start-up” a business of my own.

“Easier said than done”. Everyone needs to have an idea before they start up, luckily I had one. My idea was to make plants smarter using IoT and Artificial Intelligence. A world where plants can take care of themselves. The next phase of the startup demands high entrepreneurial skills and mastering these skills are my goals. These skills include business modeling, marketing, finance and approaching VC’s and other investors for funding. I plan to achieve these goals with the help of enormously knowledgeable professors who are more than ever-ready to help me in my future endeavors. Apart from work-related goals, I want to redefine spicy for locals by inviting them for an Indian dinner.
